The analysis of the psychological, social, cultural and political dynamics that determine perceptions of intergroup relations plays a crucial role in trying to understand the intricate social dynamics that characterize our and others' daily interactions. In Italy, as in the rest of the world, migratory flows have changed the social and cultural structure of the country, highlighting, especially in recent years, an increasing multiculturalism. Taking into account only landings and not arrivals from land routes, in 2024, from 1 January to 10 June, 22,944 migrants landed on Italian shores. In addition, according to the ISTAT report, the number of subjects with foreign citizenship currently residing in Italy is 5 million and 308 thousand. However, the issue of immigration has attracted a great deal of criticism, linked to multiple political, social, cultural and individual factors. The multiculturalism currently visible on the Italian territory, as well as on the territories of many other countries, offers numerous points of reflection on the complicated mechanisms underlying those social relations between groups that develop within complex societies. This paper aims to explore the way in which mental representations, individual attitudes and, in particular, political orientation influence the behaviour towards the different social groups that populate our society and the perception of the relationships that are established between them. A first theoretical introduction will be provided on the theory of social dominance, on the mediating role of the perceived sense of threat in the definition of political orientation, on the hypothesis of Higher Moral Obligations and on some key concepts aimed at understanding the internal mechanisms and consequences of belonging to a group. Subsequently, a study will be proposed that aims to identify the differences in the perception of relations between ethnic minorities, present on the Italian territory, on the basis of some factors such as: political orientation, perceived sense of threat, beliefs related to the collusion of minorities and the orientation to social dominance of the individual.

Abstract
Subsequently, a study will be proposed that aims to identify the differences in the perception of relations between ethnic minorities, present on the Italian territory, on the basis of some factors such as: political orientation, perceived sense of threat, beliefs related to the collusion of minorities and the orientation to social dominance of the individual.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
