Magnetic reconnection is a ubiquitous phenomenon in nature, both in space and in laboratory hot plasmas, where it occurs continuously. It is the change of topology in magnetic field lines confining hot plasmas and, in experiments for the production of energy using nuclear fusion, it is associated with the presence of instabilities of the confining magnetic field, and with a rapid release of the plasma’s magnetic energy, which converts into the kinetic energy of its constituent particles.
La riconnessione magnetica è un fenomeno onnipresente in natura, sia nello spazio che nei plasmi caldi di laboratorio, dove si verifica continuamente. Si tratta del cambiamento della topologia delle linee di campo magnetico che confinano i plasmi caldi e, negli esperimenti per la produzione di energia mediante fusione nucleare, è associata alla presenza di instabilità del campo magnetico di confinamento e a un rapido rilascio dell'energia magnetica del plasma, che si converte in energia cinetica delle sue particelle costituenti.
