The present thesis evaluated the effect of structural enrichments, perches, and ramps, on the behavior of laying hens kept in a cage-free system in the weeks of housing (18 and 20), the early production phase (21 and 23 weeks of age), and the phase corresponding to peak production (26 and 29 weeks of age). 1800 Hy-Line Brown laying hens were housed in 8 modules with 225 birds each; all modules were equipped with perches and only half of the modules had ramps. Thus, the effect of the way the two structural enrichments were used within the aviary was examined during several weeks of age and during light hours (from turning on until turning off the lights). Among the behaviors observed: are single upward movement, double upward movement, triple upward movement, single downward movement, double downward movement, and triple downward movement.
