With this thesis I wish to address the issue of educational poverty resulting from social inequalities within the Italian school systems. The subject of this study is educational poverty in Italy. I try to explain what it means to have an educational poverty rate and be one of the poorest countries in Europe. First I provide a definition of poverty and then of poverty in education, explaining how it is born within society and how it is perceived. Then I focus on the topic of social inequalities, again providing a short definition of inequality, indicating how these arise and settle within the educational systems, focusing also on how they influence the student’s learning at school. Then, in contrast to the educational inequalities, I treat the educational myth of Barbiana started by Don Lorenzo Milani, explaining how it was able to "give back to the poor the word, because without the word there is no dignity and, therefore, neither freedom and justice". It also explains the teaching methods he used to counter this phenomenon. Finally I try to analyze how today these inequalities within the Italian schools can be eliminated through strategies already in place and future strategies.

Abstract
Finally I try to analyze how today these inequalities within the Italian schools can be eliminated through strategies already in place and future strategies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
