Preadolescence is a complex period, during which the individual experiences sudden and meaningful changes. During this period, preadolescents need to develop their own identity and individuality, and the relationships with their peers become their main reference. These physiological, psychological and moral changes need to be assessed during the period in which the preadolescent lives: it is necessary to investigate the influence of smartphone and social media use on this particular population. This thesis will focus on preadolescence, the main characteristics and the relationships with emotional regulation, internalizing and externalizing symptoms and the use of smartphone and social media. After this, the Look@Me project will be presented. The data analysis will be both qualitative and quantitative: the qualitative analysis will focus on the thematic analysis using text mining of the focus groups’ main themes, whereas the quantitative analysis will be focused on the relationship between these themes and the tests used during the pre- and post- focus group research phases. The goal is to illustrate the main themes explored during focus groups and how these are connected with the wellbeing of the group of preadolescents that took part in this project.
Verrà poi presentato il progetto-intervento Look@Me.
