Socio-emotional skills are transversal abilities that include, in addition to the ability to make responsible decisions, also relational skills, self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness. The balanced maturation of these skills is essential for the formation of personal and social identity. However, in the digital age, the concepts of identity and relationship are questioned, transformed and expanded. The purpose of this thesis is to understand how new media, products of the digital revolution, impact the development of socio-emotional skills in young people. Specifically, we will try to understand if digital tools and social networks, in relation to the age of use, time spent, content, and usage methods, are resources or obstacles to the development of socio-emotional skills. We will dive deep into the risks and benefits starting from the contributions of scientific research. In addition, the importance of learning interventions related to the development of digital and socio-emotional competence will be emphasized: in this context, media education will play a crucial role in training new generations to the critical and conscious use of digital technologies.

Abstract
Socio-emotional skills are transversal abilities that include, in addition to the ability to make responsible decisions, also relational skills, self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness. Specifically, we will try to understand if digital tools and social networks, in relation to the age of use, time spent, content, and usage methods, are resources or obstacles to the development of socio-emotional skills. We will dive deep into the risks and benefits starting from the contributions of scientific research. In addition, the importance of learning interventions related to the development of digital and socio-emotional competence will be emphasized: in this context, media education will play a crucial role in training new generations to the critical and conscious use of digital technologies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
