Background: According to several studies, burns are one of the major causes of disability worldwide, especially in the first phase, and the effects can last long after hospital discharge (5-10 years). The physiotherapist is one of the key figures during the healing and rehabilitation process of the burn patient. Physiotherapy begins when the patient is hospitalized, continues during hospital admission and ends long after discharge. Each of these phases has specific characteristics that must be taken into account by the physiotherapist and the entire medical team. Aims: the aim of this thesis is to review the current literature concerning the physiotherapeutic treatment of the patient with burns and compare the results with the management observed in a burn patient in Padua’s Burn Centre. Materials and methods: a literature review was carried out using the following keywords: burn patien, burn rehabilitation, burn management. Articles from the year 2004 to 2024 have been included. Databases: Pubmed, Pedro, Cochrane Library. The internship was held at the Padua’s Burns Center from January to March 2024. Results: The review results and the clinical case study show that specific guidelines are available. The literature shows that some rehabilitation interventions are commonly used worldwide and are scientifically based, while others require further studies. Among the used interventio we find some specific of the acute phase such as the posture, mobilization and management of edema, others proper to later phases such as therapeutic exercise and management of scars. The clinical case study confirms the use of these treatments in daily clinical practice.
Sono state utilizzate come banche dati: Pubmed, Google Scholar, Pedro.
