This present work focuses on the translation of an Italian graphic novel ‘Storia della cucina Italiana a fumetti. Dalle tagliatelle etrusche al tiramisù.’ The translation’s focus are food items, since the book discusses different historical periods and since every kind of food has its own different cultural, symbolic and social aspect, some issues may arise in these terms. The thesis consists of a theoretical part and a practical part, the first chapter is going to discuss the history of comics and its principal features and elements such as balloons, onomatopoeia, etc. The second chapter discusses the different theories about comics translation, such as multimodal translation, medium-constrained translation, and scanlation. The third chapter will be the actual translation of two sections of the graphic novel, from page 58 to 81, ‘I cibi dal nuovo mondo’ and from page 169 to 197 ‘I piatti della cucina tradizionale.' To conclude the work and have practical feedback on all the topics covered in theory, the fourth chapter is going to be an analysis of the issues I had during the translation process, the methods I used to translate, and a personal critique about my work.
