Relatività Linguistica e Bilinguismo: studio sulla scelta e autopercezione del linguaggio

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the connection between linguistic relativity and bilingualism through the direct experiences of bilingual individuals. The first chapter of the thesis will address the topic of Bilingualism. Specifically, it will initially provide a general overview of this subject (definition, types, and development methodologies), and in the last paragraph, it will explore in detail the influence of bilingualism on the cognitive abilities of bilingual subjects and its impact on them. The second chapter will outline the fundamental principles of Linguistic Relativity, with particular reference to its historical development and contemporary interpretations and critiques. The third chapter will focus on a study conducted through the administration of a quiz (multiple-choice and open-ended questions) to bilingual subjects with the primary aim of aiding the development of the discussion on the link between Bilingualism and Linguistic Relativity. Finally, the conclusions will focus on the main issues identified by the study and the possible solutions to these issues, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of a bilingual mind within the reality of linguistic relativity.

Lo scopo di questa tesi è l'esplorazione del legame tra la linguistica relativa e il bilinguismo attraverso l'esperienza diretta di persone bilingue. Il primo capitolo della tesi tratterà dell'argomento del Bilinguismo. In particolare si avrà inizialmente una panoramica generica su tale argomento (definizione, tipologie e metodologie di sviluppo) per poi nell'ultimo paragrafo andare a esplorare dettagliatamente l'infuenza del bilinguismo sulle capacità cognitive dei soggetti bilingue e del suo impatto su di esse. Il secondo capitolo andrà a delineare i principi fondamentali della Relatività Linguistica, con particolare riferimento al suo sviluppo storico e alle interpretazioni e critiche contemporanee. Il terzo capitolo avrà come tema centrale uno studio condotto attraverso la somministrazione di un quiz ( domande a risposta multipla e aperte) a soggetti bilingue con lo scopo principale di aiutare lo sviluppo della discussione sul legame tra Bilinguismo e Relatività Linguistica. Infine, le conclusioni avranno come tema principale quali sono state le problematiche rilevate dallo studio e le possibili soluzioni a tali problematiche e mettere in luce i vantaggi gli svantaggi di una mente bilingue all'interno della realtà della relatività linguistica.
