Dehumanization appears to be a widely studied construct from different perspectives, yet without presenting a consistent state of the art regarding its relationship to morality. The current study, placing itself within the literature on this relationship, aims to investigate whether the violation of a moral foundation valued by one's political ingroup can be considered a criterion that leads to a person's dehumanization. Following the definition of morality outlined by the Moral Foundations Theory, this study hypothesized that, in line with what its framework, people with a liberal ideology would be inclined to dehumanize those who had committed infractions of individualizing foundations, while conservatives would dehumanize violations of both binding and individualizing foundations to a similar extent. Furthermore, to support the hypothesis that it was not the action itself that transgresses a moral foundation, but rather the interpretation of it, it was tested whether changing the frame of the violation could lead to consequences in judgments toward the protagonist of the described scene.

Abstract
Furthermore, to support the hypothesis that it was not the action itself that transgresses a moral foundation, but rather the interpretation of it, it was tested whether changing the frame of the violation could lead to consequences in judgments toward the protagonist of the described scene.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
