Pregnancy represents a time of significant change in a woman's life, marked by physical, emotional, and psychological transformations. In addition to the obvious bodily changes, there is often a complex process of accepting the new social role. All these changes can have a major impact on maternal mental well-being. Maternal mental health is a fundamental aspect during the transition to parenthood, as it not only influences the mother's experience but also affects her interactions with her child and partner. The literature has extensively examined the main psychological disorders that characterize the postpartum period, including postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum PTSD, burnout, and parental stress. Given the pervasiveness of maternal psychological disorders, it is necessary to explore the role of protective and risk factors. In particular, social support and support from the partner seem to play a protective role in the onset of maternal psychopathology. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the impact that support from one's partner may have on the onset of maternal psychopathology. Specifically, it focuses on the role of partner support during the last trimester of pregnancy in the onset of postpartum depression, burnout, and parental stress. Additionally, this research aims to investigate how the support received from one's partner during pregnancy influences mother-child dyadic interaction in the postpartum period. In conclusion, the strengths and limitations of this research project will be discussed, along with possible future developments.
