This thesis explores the complex relationship between social isolation, self-esteem, flourishing, and parenting styles. In an increasingly connected social context marked by rising forms of isolation, the phenomenon of hikikomori represents an emerging challenge for the health and well-being of adolescents. This research analyzes how social isolation can influennce self-esteem and flourishing in Italian adolescents and investigates how parenting styles may be related to self-esteem. Through various tests involving adolescents aged 14 to 19, their experiences and perceptions regarding these typical themes of adolescent psychological development were explored. The results, obtained through correlational analyses, highlighted how the phenomenon of social isolation negatively correlates with both self-esteem and flourishing levels in ltalian adolescents. Conversely, high levels of self-esteem positively correlate with good levels of flourishing. Finally, this research investigated the influence of parenting styles, demonstrating that parenting styles focused on supporting autonomy and responsiveness positively correlate with adolescents' self-esteem levels. These findings reinforce what has already been observed in the literature, suggesting the need to propose targeted interventions aimed at reducing social isolation as well as interventions directed at parents to support them in adopting an educational style that emphasizes autonomy and responsiveness.

Abstract
These findings reinforce what has already been observed in the literature, suggesting the need to propose targeted interventions aimed at reducing social isolation as well as interventions directed at parents to support them in adopting an educational style that emphasizes autonomy and responsiveness.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
