Infant sleep in the early years of life plays a key role in a child's cognitive and emotional development, and its qualitative and quantitative characteristics can cascade through the child's physical and relational environment. It is one of the most challenging aspects of parenting, as sleep-related difficulties can negatively affect not only the child's well-being but also the parents' mental health by increasing their stress levels. In particular, parental stress can affect the quality of caregiver-child interactions, compromising the development of a secure attachment and impairing the parent's ability to respond effectively to the child's needs. The scientific literature indicates that sleep is regulated not only by intrinsic biological factors, but also by proximal and distal extrinsic factors , including the socio-cultural environment in which the child is immersed, daily interactions with the caregiver, parenting style and personal characteristics of the parent. The main aim of the present thesis is to explore the complex relationship between infant sleep, parental stress and the quality of affective exchanges in the mother-child dyad. Through an in-depth analysis of the literature and the data collected, we will analyze how these factors interact with each other in a dynamic, bidirectional model. Finally, the findings are discussed, highlighting the strengths and limitations of the research conducted.

Abstract
Finally, the findings are discussed, highlighting the strengths and limitations of the research conducted.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
