The hikikomori phenomenon, or social withdrawal, initially observed in Japan, is also emerging in Italy. This condition mainly involves adolescents and young adults and, although of growing concern, still remains poorly understood. This thesis explores, through a case-control study, the association between social withdrawal and narcissistic vulnerability, also examining how the withdrawal condition affects personality organisation processes. The case-control study involved Italian adolescents and young adults between the ages of 13 and 21. The Hikikomori Risk Inventory, the Pathological Narcissism Inventory and the Interview of Personality Organisation Processes in Adolescence were used to test the veracity of the hypotheses. The expected results could provide new indications for the prevention and treatment of social withdrawal, supporting the development of targeted psychological interventions.

Abstract
The expected results could provide new indications for the prevention and treatment of social withdrawal, supporting the development of targeted psychological interventions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
