This thesis aims to explore the impact of sport, with a specific focus on rugby, in the development of socio-emotional skills (SES) and socio-emotional learning (SEL) in young people. The research is divided into three chapters, in the first one the concept of socio-emotional competences is introduced, tracing its historical and conceptual evolution. The various terms associated with these skills are analysed. Particular focus is placed on socio-emotional learning (SEL), considered a fundamental process for the development of SES, and on the importance of integrating these skills into various educational systems. The main theoretical reference models will be examined, including those proposed by CASEL and the "Big Five" model. The second chapter focuses on the relationship between sport and socio-emotional competences, with an emphasis on the role that sport plays in the education of young people. The functions of sport are explored, and in particular how team dynamics can support the development of skills that are essential for everyday life. Through the analysis of previous studies, it is intended to highlight how the sport context is ideal for socio-emotional learning, and discuss how these skills acquired in sport can be transferred to other areas of life, Contributing to the formation of more aware, empathetic and socially responsible individuals. The third chapter is dedicated to rugby, with a focus on the reality of the sports club Rugby Valsugana di Padova. After an overview of the history and basic principles of rugby, the focus is on how this sport, with its unique values and characteristics, promotes social and emotional skills. Through a series of interviews, the aim is to understand how the team context and rugbistic environment are conducive to the development of SES. The interviews are aimed at collecting data that can be confirmed or disprove the hypothesis that rugby is an effective tool for promoting these skills.
