This paper aims to highlight the importance of shared reading on early child development. After defining what is meant by shared reading, or dialogic reading, the available scientific literature will be analyzed to explore the effects this practice has on the child's linguistic, cognitive, and socio-emotional development Next, the role of the family environment will be examined, along with the benefits that this practice has not only for the child but also for the parent, contributing to secure attachment and greater parental self-efficacy. The increasing role of fathers in reading with their children, previously often marginal, will be examined. Finally, the importance of promoting this practice will be emphasized, with particular focus on families in socially disadvantaged situations.
