The aim of this thesis is to analyze the topic of the body and its relation with the element of the chair, in order to outline the evolution of a phenomenology of the performative movement –the contemporary dance one. In the first chapter, I look at the main paradigms of the body which have marked the history of European culture. Secondly, I develop the theoretical core of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s "phenomenology of movement", over the introduction of the chair element. Lastly, I analyze the dance choreutic art through the chiasmatic relation between body, chair and idea, whilst observing and verifying the reversibility between Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology and the expressive practice of contemporary dance.

Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the topic of the body and its relation with the element of the chair, in order to outline the evolution of a phenomenology of the performative movement –the contemporary dance one. In the first chapter, I look at the main paradigms of the body which have marked the history of European culture. Secondly, I develop the theoretical core of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s "phenomenology of movement", over the introduction of the chair element. Lastly, I analyze the dance choreutic art through the chiasmatic relation between body, chair and idea, whilst observing and verifying the reversibility between Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology and the expressive practice of contemporary dance.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
