This literature review was written to try and understand the goals and shortcomings of inclusive education when it comes to educating children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), that has been gaining more and more traction in recent years, as European countries try to move away from educating pupils with autism spectrum disorder in special needs schools by moving them to general classes in mainstream schools. We will look at what legislations are in place, and what are the biggest obstacles and shortcomings reported by school staff – teachers, assistant teachers, special educators, parents, children and health professionals involved in educating youth with ASD.
