This thesis aims to study the wettability on solid surface of the liquid crystal 8CB in its mesophases and how it can be actively manipulated using dielectrowetting. Particular focus was placed on applying dielectrowetting on the liquid crystal in its smectic phase, a procedure which has not yet been reported in literature. Moreover, we explored how dielectrowetting can be used together with temperature control to change the wettability of the liquid crystal in its phase transitions, resulting in peculiar heating and cooling cycles.

Abstract
This thesis aims to study the wettability on solid surface of the liquid crystal 8CB in its mesophases and how it can be actively manipulated using dielectrowetting. Particular focus was placed on applying dielectrowetting on the liquid crystal in its smectic phase, a procedure which has not yet been reported in literature. Moreover, we explored how dielectrowetting can be used together with temperature control to change the wettability of the liquid crystal in its phase transitions, resulting in peculiar heating and cooling cycles.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
