This thesis explores the interaction between food choices, political orientation, basic human values and the concept of “moral framing” in the context of reducing meat consumption. Specifically, it investigates how each individual's political inclinations and moral principles influence the perception and adoption of sustainable eating habits, focusing on the ethical, environmental and personal motivations that promote behavioral change toward plant-based diets. Through the administration of a questionnaire, this research examines how the moral framing of meat consumption issues-such as animal welfare, global warming, and social justice-interacts with political values (e.g., progressivism vs. conservatism) and core values. The results suggest that political orientation and human values play a crucial role in guiding food choices, determining openness to or resistance to dietary lifestyles that favor the adoption of a meat-reduced diet.
La presente tesi esplora l'interazione tra scelte alimentari, orientamento politico, valori umani di base e il concetto di "moral framing" nel contesto della riduzione del consumo di carne. In particolare, si indaga come le inclinazioni politiche e i principi morali di ciascun individuo influenzino la percezione e l'adozione di abitudini alimentari sostenibili, focalizzandosi sulle motivazioni etiche, ambientali e personali che promuovono il cambiamento comportamentale verso diete a base vegetale. Attraverso la somministrazione di un questionario, la presente ricerca esamina come il framing morale delle questioni legate al consumo di carne – come il benessere animale, il riscaldamento globale e la giustizia sociale – interagisce con i valori politici (ad esempio, progressismo vs. conservatorismo) e i valori di base. I risultati suggeriscono che l'orientamento politico e i valori umani giocano un ruolo cruciale nell'orientare le scelte alimentari, determinando l'apertura o la resistenza a stili di vita alimentari che privilegiano l'adozione di una dieta ridotta in carne.
