This thesis explores the role of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, tumors and neurodegenerative diseases. It discusses how an incorrect diet, rich in refined sugars and saturated fats, contributes to the development of these diseases. On the contrary, a balanced diet, in particular the Mediterranean diet, is effective in reducing the risk of developing NCDs and in improving the management of already established diseases. The main beneficial food groups, such as vegetables, fish, whole grains and healthy fats, are analyzed and the importance of an active lifestyle is discussed. Research confirms that correct nutrition is crucial for the prevention and treatment of NCDs.
