This work aims to trace a cultural trajectory within the history of nuclear development, analyzing the profound and intricate relationship between cinema and the atomic dimension. Beginning with the early stages of nuclear technology, when the concept of the bomb remained an abstract and hypothetical notion, and progressing to the complexities of the contemporary era, the text examines how cinema has reflected, amplified, and helped to shape collective perceptions of the nuclear issue. Hollywood’s ability to draw upon this theme from its earliest representations has fostered a powerful and enduring narrative, rendering the nuclear threat a persistent presence within the collective imagination. The analysis focuses particularly on three cinematic works: The Beginning or the End, Fail Safe, and The Day After. These three films, emerging from distinct historical periods, serve to highlight how the portrayal of the atomic theme evolved throughout the twentieth century. The research is not confined to historical and cinematographic analysis but also invites readers to reflect upon the social function of cinema. How can cinematic representations influence public discourse? What role can cinema play in fostering greater awareness of nuclear dangers? Finally, the text explores the future potential of cinema as a tool for education, advocacy, and critical reflection, at a time when geopolitical tensions and technological risks continue to evolve with increasing peril.
L'analisi si concentra in particolare su tre opere cinematografiche: The Beginning or the End, Fail Safe e The Day After.

Abstract
Finally, the text explores the future potential of cinema as a tool for education, advocacy, and critical reflection, at a time when geopolitical tensions and technological risks continue to evolve with increasing peril.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
