This thesis studies how travel, pilgrimage and hospitality have changed from the Middle Ages to today with a particular focus on the Pilgrim's House. We study the reasons why people undertook long journeys to sacred places, the difficulties they faced and the importance of the places where they could be hosted. It also examines how hospitality has evolved over time, starting from medieval hospices to modern facilities. The Pilgrim's House in Padua is an example of how religious hospitality has adapted to the present day. Finally, the link between pilgrimage and current tourism is explored by showing how these ancient routes have been rediscovered and renewed.

Abstract
This thesis studies how travel, pilgrimage and hospitality have changed from the Middle Ages to today with a particular focus on the Pilgrim's House. We study the reasons why people undertook long journeys to sacred places, the difficulties they faced and the importance of the places where they could be hosted. It also examines how hospitality has evolved over time, starting from medieval hospices to modern facilities. The Pilgrim's House in Padua is an example of how religious hospitality has adapted to the present day. Finally, the link between pilgrimage and current tourism is explored by showing how these ancient routes have been rediscovered and renewed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
