The aim of my dissertation is to explore the intersection of ballet and language acquisition, investigating how dance, particularly classical ballet, can be used as a tool to aid in the development of linguistic skills in children. This study responds to the growing academic and practical interest in multimodal learning approaches, exploring the role of movement in cognitive and linguistic development. Given the structured nature of both language and ballet, this research analyzes the parallels between them and proposes innovative methodologies for integrating dance into language education. The case study focuses on practical experience teaching ballet to young children, analyzing how verbal instruction (in both Italian and English) combined with movement facilitates language learning. By examining the use of gestures, rhythm, and spatial awareness in ballet, this research identifies specific elements of dance that align with linguistic development and language acquisition. The findings suggest that incorporating dance into language teaching provides a rich, multimodal learning experience for young children, providing insights into how nonverbal forms of communication can enhance verbal skills. This research contributes to the ongoing academic conversation by offering practical applications of ballet in educational settings, with potential for further exploration in broader educational contexts.
