Traumatic experiences within the family context, such as emotional abuse, neglect, or maltreatment by parental figures, represent a widespread and often underestimated phenomenon that requires both theoretical and clinical attention. Relational family traumas can compromise the development of an individual’s emotional, cognitive, and relational abilities; however, some individuals are able to recover from traumatic experiences without developing psychological damage. The first chapter of this thesis explores the definition of relational trauma in family contexts, outlining the eight types identified in the literature and the main associated psychological consequences. The second chapter focuses on the concept of resilience, understood as the individual’s ability to adapt positively to adverse events, thus preventing the onset of psychopathological outcomes. Furthermore, resilience is described as a dynamic and multidimensional phenomenon, as theorised in the Multi-System Model of Resilience. The third chapter examines various interventions that foster resilience, such as the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), EMDR, mindfulness and meditation techniques, and, finally, practical strategies proposed by the American Psychological Association applicable to daily life. The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the psychological reconstruction processes in cases of family-related relational trauma.
