This thesis investigates the relationship between bilingualism and moral development in children, analyzing key theories on bilingualism and morality in early childhood. Particular attention is given to the Foreign Language Effect (FLE), highlighting how variables such as language use context and language dominance can influence moral judgment and prosocial behavior in bilingual individuals, who often display notable differences compared to their monolingual peers. The discussion is supported by recent empirical findings that help clarify the cognitive and emotional mechanisms involved.
Questo elaborato indaga il rapporto tra bilinguismo e sviluppo morale nei bambini, analizzando le principali teorie sul bilinguismo e sulla moralità in età evolutiva. Particolare attenzione è rivolta al Foreign Language Effect (FLE), evidenziando come variabili quali il contesto d’uso linguistico e la dominanza linguistica possano incidere sull’elaborazione dei giudizi morali e sui comportamenti prosociali nei soggetti bilingui, i quali mostrano spesso differenze rilevanti rispetto ai coetanei monolingui. L’analisi è supportata da una selezione di dati empirici provenienti da studi recenti, che contribuiscono a chiarire i meccanismi cognitivi ed emotivi coinvolti.
