The thesis offers a historical-critical reinterpretation of the evolution of career-guidance paradigms from 1949—when ILO Recommendation No. 87 first recognised vocational guidance for all as a citizen’s right—through to 2025. It centres on the transition from the paradigm of inclusive career guidance to the Life Design approach. Specifically, the study investigates the extent to which Italian guidance services and policies have progressed towards what Soresi and the Handbook of Life Design describe as a sustainable future: an interweaving of social justice, individual empowerment, and environmental sustainability. The findings reveal a gradual convergence between theoretical frameworks and regulatory measures, yet they also highlight enduring shortcomings: limited use of psychosocial indicators in outcome evaluation, pronounced territorial disparities, and insufficient alignment of guidance initiatives with schools’ sustainability agendas.

Abstract
The thesis offers a historical-critical reinterpretation of the evolution of career-guidance paradigms from 1949—when ILO Recommendation No. 87 first recognised vocational guidance for all as a citizen’s right—through to 2025. It centres on the transition from the paradigm of inclusive career guidance to the Life Design approach. Specifically, the study investigates the extent to which Italian guidance services and policies have progressed towards what Soresi and the Handbook of Life Design describe as a sustainable future: an interweaving of social justice, individual empowerment, and environmental sustainability. The findings reveal a gradual convergence between theoretical frameworks and regulatory measures, yet they also highlight enduring shortcomings: limited use of psychosocial indicators in outcome evaluation, pronounced territorial disparities, and insufficient alignment of guidance initiatives with schools’ sustainability agendas.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
