In recent years, several econophysicists have worked on developing metrics, by elaborating world trade web data, to quantify the economic complexity of countries and products. These metrics better reflect the competitiveness of countries in the world trade web compared to traditional economic metrics, as they are built upon a significantly higher amount of trade information rather than mere monetary value. In this thesis, we will review the state of the art of the main methods developed in recent years and, in particular, focus on entropic measures developed using the concept of Shannon entropy borrowed from classical information theory. We will then relate these metrics to present as complete a picture as possible of the world trade web.

Abstract
In recent years, several econophysicists have worked on developing metrics, by elaborating world trade web data, to quantify the economic complexity of countries and products. These metrics better reflect the competitiveness of countries in the world trade web compared to traditional economic metrics, as they are built upon a significantly higher amount of trade information rather than mere monetary value. In this thesis, we will review the state of the art of the main methods developed in recent years and, in particular, focus on entropic measures developed using the concept of Shannon entropy borrowed from classical information theory. We will then relate these metrics to present as complete a picture as possible of the world trade web.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
