This thesis aims at assessing the role of corporeality, movement and educational mediators in the learning processes. It starts from an analysis of the relationship between mind and body based on the embodied cognition approach, followed by an investigation into the functionality of the combination of storytelling and movement for learning topological concepts in preschool education. To address this research question, a learning project to develop spatial orientation skills of five—year-olds was designed. It was based on playful activities during which children could experience various topological concepts with their own bodies. The whole learning project was monitored directly and by administering two psychomotor tests, one at the beginning and one at the end. The latter aimed at assessing each child’s level of spatial awareness before and after the project. At the end, almost all children improved their abilities and knowledge of topological concepts, improving their test results. This research highlights how, in developmental age, the mind and cognitive processes are based on senso-motor experiences and, thus, strictly connected to the body.
