The present thesis explores how Gothic literature has had, and continues to have, a significant and enduring influence over culture and expressions outside of the literary context. Beginning from the origins of the Goths, the work is divided into three chapters that, from a historical point of view, shift to one of the most well-known texts, Dracula, to ultimately address the theme of Gothic music. More specifically, two musical acts are taken into consideration: Bauhaus, with the iconic single "Bela Lugosi's Dead", and Killing Joke, due to their heavy reliance on the occult and dark themes. An analysis of the social and cultural context of late 1970s England is included, as it is essential in setting the basis for a clear understanding of the birth of the Goth subculture. By providing an overview of the core elements of the Gothic and their relevance in transmedial representations, the study aims at contributing to the discourse surrounding the link between the contemporary Goth culture and its often underestimated and overlooked literary roots.

Abstract
By providing an overview of the core elements of the Gothic and their relevance in transmedial representations, the study aims at contributing to the discourse surrounding the link between the contemporary Goth culture and its often underestimated and overlooked literary roots.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
