Por que traducir ao galego? Estudio estadístico sobre la traducción de literatura infantil y juvenil entre los años 2003 y 2023

This thesis has as its fundamental basis the statistical analysis of the data collected on the site "Bitraga" (Biblioteca de tradución galega) of the University of Vigo, which catalogs the translations made from galician to another language and from another language to galician, since 1980. The collection of information for this investigation focuses on the twenty years 2003-2023 and, in particular, on the children's literature in an original language other than galician, and then translated. In addition to the calculation of the books translated into galician, we also analyse the directionality of translations and the number of different languages from which they are translated. The aim is to investigate the possible connections between statistical data on the development of translations into galician in the last twenty years, and the current sociolinguistic condition of galician in Galicia. The first chapter aims to frame the work in the Galician sociolinguistic context, also with historical data related to linguistic history. The second chapter specifies the theoretical bases of the translation studies from which the work takes shape, as well as the characterization of the genre of children's literature. The third chapter consists of a commentary on the analysis of the statistical data collected, compared with the development of the Spanish publishing market, and concludes the work by identifying the possible interpretations of the survey results.

La presente tesi ha come base fondamentale l’analisi statistica dei dati raccolti sul sito “Bitraga” (Biblioteca de tradución galega) dell’Università di Vigo, in cui vengono catalogate le traduzioni operate dal galego ad un’altra lingua e viceversa, a partire dall’anno 1980. La raccolta delle informazioni per l’indagine di questa tesi si incentra sul ventennio 2003-2023 e, in particolare, sulle opere di letteratura per infanzia e adolescenza in una lingua originale diversa dal galego, e poi a questa tradotta. Oltre al conteggio dei libri tradotti al galego, si va ad analizzare anche la direzionalità delle traduzioni, e pure il numero di lingue diverse da cui si traduce. Lo scopo è indagare le possibili connessioni fra i dati statistici dell’andamento delle traduzioni al galego degli ultimi vent’anni, e la condizione sociolinguistica odierna del galego in Galizia. Il primo capitolo ha come scopo l’inquadrare il lavoro nel contesto sociolinguistico galego, con anche dati storici relativi alla storia linguistica esterna. Il secondo capitolo va a specificare le basi teoriche di traduttologia da cui il lavoro prende forma, oltre alla caratterizzazione del genere della letteratura per l’infanzia e l’adolescenza. Il terzo capitolo consiste nel commento all’analisi dei dati statistici raccolti, confrontati con l’andamento del mercato editoriale spagnolo, e conclude il lavoro traendo delle possibili interpretazioni sui risultati dell’indagine.
