This thesis analyzes the electronic cigarette as a sociotechnical device through the sociological interpretation derived from the Science and Technology Studies (STS), particularly regarding the SCOT (Social Construction of Technology) and ANT (Actor-Network Theory) models. After an historical analysis, the technical configuration and the ways of representation of the artifact, the research aims to study empirically the Relevant Social Groups (RSG) with particular attention on young users and their forms of technological appropriation around the usage of the e-cigarette and Heated Tobacco Products (HTP). Thanks to qualitative methods such as discursive interviews to young people aged 15-29, the research explores the social practices and meanings of the electronic cigarette, underlining the ways in which agency is the result of negotiation processes inside sociotechnical networks. The main goal is to demonstrate the connection between technological advancement and society - that means the e-cigarette and its users - applying the theoretical instruments offered by STS and comparing what emerged with the literature on the subject matter.

Abstract
The main goal is to demonstrate the connection between technological advancement and society - that means the e-cigarette and its users - applying the theoretical instruments offered by STS and comparing what emerged with the literature on the subject matter.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
