The purpose of this thesis is to provide an introduction to the world of gliders, with particular attention to structural aspects. A computational exercise is developed for the sizing of a tapered, hollow-section spar used as a load-bearing element of the wing. Using the Schleicher Ka-6 glider as a reference, the geometric conditions and loading parameters were defined, and the stresses acting on the spar were then determined. Through the application of the Bredt formulas and the von Mises criterion, the internal stresses and consequently the spar's dimensions were estimated. The adopted method provides a solid basis for preliminary sizing, while leaving room for further exploration through construction evaluations, weight analyses, and more advanced numerical tests, such as FEM simulations.

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to provide an introduction to the world of gliders, with particular attention to structural aspects. A computational exercise is developed for the sizing of a tapered, hollow-section spar used as a load-bearing element of the wing. Using the Schleicher Ka-6 glider as a reference, the geometric conditions and loading parameters were defined, and the stresses acting on the spar were then determined. Through the application of the Bredt formulas and the von Mises criterion, the internal stresses and consequently the spar's dimensions were estimated. The adopted method provides a solid basis for preliminary sizing, while leaving room for further exploration through construction evaluations, weight analyses, and more advanced numerical tests, such as FEM simulations.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
