This paper analyzes the role of nonverbal communication in the expression of psychological distress, with particular reference to depressive disorders in adolescence. After a review of the main social, physiological, and psychological changes that characterize this stage of development, we delve into how these transformations can influence the onset and manifestation of depression. Subsequently, the paper offers a general overview of depressive disorders, focusing on their specificities in adolescence. Particular attention is paid to nonverbal communication as a privileged channel through which experiences of suffering and implicit requests for support are expressed. Specifically, the paper analyzes the main channels of nonverbal, kinesic, vocal, and proxemic communication, highlighting their distinctive characteristics within the adolescent depressive framework. The aim is to highlight the typical manifestations and functions of these signals and thus contribute to a better understanding of psychological distress during this delicate phase of life.Finally, the paper delves into the main application implications and interventions aimed at adolescents with depressive symptoms, highlighting the role of schools, families, and psychologists in early recognition of signs of distress and in supporting psychological well-being. Attention is also paid to the clinical interview as a privileged tool for evaluation and intervention, as well as to the importance of prevention strategies aimed at promoting greater awareness and promoting the timely identification of risk situations.
Il presente elaborato analizza il ruolo della comunicazione non verbale nell’espressione del disagio psicologico, con particolare riferimento ai disturbi depressivi in età adolescenziale. Dopo una rassegna dei principali cambiamenti sociali, fisiologici e psicologici che caratterizzano questa fase dello sviluppo, si approfondisce il modo in cui tali trasformazioni possono influire sull’insorgenza e sulla manifestazione della depressione. In seguito, l’elaborato offre un inquadramento generale sui disturbi depressivi, soffermandosi sulle loro specificità in adolescenza. Viene dedicata particolare attenzione alla comunicazione non verbale come canale privilegiato attraverso cui si esprimono vissuti di sofferenza e richieste implicite di supporto. Nello specifico, l’elaborato analizza i principali canali della comunicazione non verbale, cinesico, vocale e prossemico, evidenziandone le caratteristiche distintive all’interno del quadro depressivo adolescenziale, con l’obiettivo di mettere in luce le manifestazioni tipiche e le funzioni di tali segnali e contribuire, in tal modo, ad una migliore comprensione del disagio psicologico in questa delicata fase di vita. Infine, l’elaborato approfondisce le principali implicazioni applicative e gli interventi rivolti agli adolescenti con sintomatologia depressiva, evidenziando il ruolo della scuola, della famiglia e degli psicologi nel riconoscimento precoce dei segnali di disagio e nel sostegno al benessere psicologico. Viene inoltre dedicata attenzione al colloquio clinico quale strumento privilegiato di valutazione e intervento, nonché all’importanza delle strategie di prevenzione volte a promuovere una maggiore consapevolezza e a favorire l’individuazione tempestiva delle situazioni di rischio.
