In contemporary society, physical appearance plays an increasingly central role in the construction of personal identity and social relationships. Constant exposure to idealized beauty standards through the media and social networks contributes to greater feelings of body dissatisfaction, social comparison, and fear of others’ judgment, especially during adolescence and young adulthood. Body anxiety represents a form of psychological distress characterized by excessive concern about one’s physical appearance and the fear of being negatively evaluated by others. This condition can affect individual well-being, self-esteem, and the quality of social relationships, and in more severe cases may be associated with psychological disorders such as body dysmorphic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and eating disorders. This thesis explores the topic of body anxiety and body image perception, analyzing the main psychological, familial, and sociocultural factors involved in the development of this form of distress. In particular, it examines the role of social comparison, sensitivity to judgment, parental influences, and social media in shaping self-image. The aim of this paper is to promote greater awareness of the impact that appearance-related anxiety can have on psychological well-being, highlighting the importance of prevention and the development of a healthier and more balanced relationship with one’s body.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to promote greater awareness of the impact that appearance-related anxiety can have on psychological well-being, highlighting the importance of prevention and the development of a healthier and more balanced relationship with one’s body.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
