This study examined the relationships among academic self-efficacy, perfectionism, and trait emotional intelligence during adolescence in a sample of 1,019 Italian high school students. Specifically, the study analyzed the association between academic self-efficacy and the multidimensions of perfectionism, distinguishing socially prescribed perfectionism from the self-oriented dimensions of aspiration and criticism. The relationship between trait emotional intelligence and academic self-efficacy was also investigated, as well as the potential moderating role of emotional intelligence in the associations between perfectionism and academic self-efficacy. Data were collected using validated instruments: the Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale (CAPS), the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children (SEQ-C), and the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Child Short Form (TEIQue-CSF). The study contributes to a better understanding of the interplay among cognitive, perfectionistic, and emotional dimensions in adolescence, highlighting their relevance to adolescents’ psychological well-being.
