This dissertation addresses zero acquisition mechanisms in typical and atypical development. Early literature evidence suggested a predominant role of mathematical abilities in the acquisition of number zero. More recently, the importance of language competences have been shown to have an influence in its acquisition. This dissertation aims at investigating the weight of both components through a single-case study in a subject with Primary Language Impairment (PLI). The working hypothesis argues that language competences play a consistent role in the acquisition of number zero. In order to investigate the competence of number zero, tests previously used in the literature will be administered with the aim of comparing the results between the typical development population and the individual case under examination. A performance in line with the average values of the typical development population in these tests would confirm the weight of mathematical abilities in the acquisition of number zero. Conversely, a performance below the average of the typical development population would suggest a strong influence of language competences in its acquisition.
