This thesis critically examines categorical and dimensional approaches to understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), questioning the conventional boundaries that often define neurodiversity. The central inquiry revolves around the concept of being "a little bit autistic" and whether such a notion can be reconciled within existing diagnostic frameworks. Through an analysis of the historical trajectory of ASD diagnosis and classification, this research uncovers evolving perspectives on the disorder and their implications for individuals who may exhibit subclinical traits. Additionally, this thesis delves into the realm of comorbidities, shedding light on the intricate interplay between ASD and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It explores the co-occurrence of these two conditions, examining diagnostic challenges, shared characteristics, and potential underlying mechanisms. Through a multidisciplinary perspective, this study underscores the need for a more nuanced and inclusive understanding of ASD. It calls for a reevaluation of diagnostic paradigms to better accommodate diverse experiences and manifestations within the autism spectrum, ultimately advocating for a more compassionate and precise approach to neurodiversity.

Abstract
It calls for a reevaluation of diagnostic paradigms to better accommodate diverse experiences and manifestations within the autism spectrum, ultimately advocating for a more compassionate and precise approach to neurodiversity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
