Nocebo and lessebo effects are considered two negative phenomena related to placebo use. In this paper we explore the terminology and provide an overview of these effects, as well as discuss strategies to mitigate them in clinical trials and clinical practice. Both phenomena are analyzed from a psychological, psychosocial, and neurobiological perspective, and the ethical implications of their manipulation by clinicians and researchers are emphasized. Interest in the nocebo effect has grown significantly in recent years, as evidenced by the increasing number of scientific publications on the topic, however, there is a huge disparity in research between placebo effect and nocebo and lessebo effects, indicating a lack of attention to these negative counterparts. Expanding the study of these effects could lead to a better understanding of treatments and drugs, as well as reduce ethical controversies and improve the quality of care. This paper, through a literature review, aims to highlight these issues and draw attention to them.

Abstract
This paper, through a literature review, aims to highlight these issues and draw attention to them.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
