Adolescence, commonly perceived as a period of conflict and instability, is now reinterpreted through the transformative perspective of Positive Youth Development (PYD). This theory, along with its practical and research approach, challenges the established paradigm that has long underestimated the true capabilities of young people, focusing instead on their developmental potential rather than their deficits. Particularly, this paper aims to explore the crucial role that mentoring adults and educational practices play in facilitating positive development during this pivotal period in young people's lives. In the first chapter, we begin by analyzing the developmental tasks faced by young people, highlighting the shift from a negative conception of adolescence to a positive outlook. Through an examination of the foundations and approaches of PYD, such as Lerner's 5 and 6 Cs model and Benson's 40 Developmental Assets, a new perspective emerges aimed at providing support to young people in their growth process. A brief introduction to the study of purpose and youth motivation, as proposed by Damon and Larson, completes this overview. The second chapter focuses on parenting styles and practices that positively influence youth development, as well as changes within the family system during adolescence. We analyze the effectiveness of authoritative parenting, supportive parenthood, and the concept of "good parenting," seeking to grasp the differences between more classical authors and contemporary approaches. By examining the personalities of parents and adolescents, along with variations in parental behaviors, we highlight the crucial importance of the flexible adaptability of the entire changing family system, outlining ways in which family conflict can have positive effects on youth development. The third chapter explores well-being and social development during adolescence, concentrating on the significance of dimensions such as autonomy, control, and parental support. We analyze the complex relationship between parents and children in this transitional phase, highlighting how their contrasting needs can influence the overall well-being of young people. We introduce the concept of life satisfaction and explore the role of parental self-efficacy in promoting positive development in their children. The paper concludes with a reflection on the ongoing challenges in implementing PYD.

Abstract
Adolescence, commonly perceived as a period of conflict and instability, is now reinterpreted through the transformative perspective of Positive Youth Development (PYD). This theory, along with its practical and research approach, challenges the established paradigm that has long underestimated the true capabilities of young people, focusing instead on their developmental potential rather than their deficits. Particularly, this paper aims to explore the crucial role that mentoring adults and educational practices play in facilitating positive development during this pivotal period in young people's lives. We introduce the concept of life satisfaction and explore the role of parental self-efficacy in promoting positive development in their children.
