This paper explores the etiology of hearing loss, analyzing causes, types and degrees of deafness, as well as the related diagnostic and rehabilitative strategies. The historical-scientific path that led to the understanding of genetic, environmental and acquired factors of deafness is reconstructed. The focus is on modern diagnostic techniques and possible interventions, including cochlear implants and multidisciplinary approaches. It will focus on the impact of hearing loss in school-age children, emphasizing difficulties in learning and communication. Early intervention, the use of technological supports and an inclusive school environment are considered essential to promote the educational and relational success of students with hearing loss. The educator plays a central role in ensuring adaptability and inclusion.
