This thesis aims to explore the “Junior Project Officers” (JPO) program promoted by Doctors with Africa Cuamm, which involves medical residents spending six months of their specialization training in Africa. The work focuses on the importance of pedagogical training for healthcare professionals, examining how this type of experience contributes not only to the development of clinical skills but also to personal and human growth. The thesis begins by examining the concept of pedagogical training, with a specific focus on the education of health professionals and the healthcare context in African countries. It then describes the structure and training activities of the NGO Cuamm, paying particular attention to the human resources sector. Finally, the JPO project is analyzed in detail, highlighting its main features, statistical data on the medical residents involved from 2002 to the present, and the different specialization pathways undertaken. Through a case study based on my internship experience at Cuamm and the testimonies of five medical residents, the strengths and weaknesses of the project emerge. The findings highlight the transformative value of this experience and emphasize the crucial role of both technical and pedagogical training in the development of today’s healthcare professionals.
