This thesis aims to explore the phenomenon of technoference, defined as the interruption or disruption of the parent–child relationship and dyadic interaction caused by parental use of mobile and digital devices. The first chapter provides a definition of the phenomenon and contextualizes its prevalence. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of the primary relationship in the socio-emotional development of the child. An additional section examines the effects of technological interruptions and distractions on the quality of parenting. The second chapter investigates the predictive factors, considering both parent-related variables such as stress, problematic device use, and difficulties in self-regulation, as well as child-related characteristics, with particular attention to effortful control. The third chapter explores the potential consequences of technoference on children’s socio-emotional well-being, focusing on the development of emotional regulation and on problematic behaviors, both externalizing and internalizing. Taken together, these three levels of analysis provide a comprehensive and multidimensional view of technoference, shedding light on the complexity of the dynamics that sustain it and emphasizing the importance of promoting more mindful parenting practices in the digital age.
Il presente elaborato si propone di approfondire il tema della tecnoferenza, ovvero l’interruzione o la compromissione della relazione genitore-figlio e dell’interazione diadica, causata dall’uso di dispositivi mobili e digitali da parte della figura genitoriale. Nel primo capitolo, viene presentata una definizione del fenomeno e ne viene contestualizzata la diffusione. Inoltre, viene evidenziata l’importanza della relazione primaria nello sviluppo socio-emotivo del bambino. Un’ulteriore sezione analizza gli effetti delle interruzioni e delle distrazioni tecnologiche sulla qualità della genitorialità. Il secondo capitolo approfondisce i fattori predittivi, considerando sia variabili legate ai genitori quali stress, uso problematico dei dispositivi e difficoltà di autoregolazione, sia caratteristiche del bambino, con particolare attenzione al controllo volontario. Il terzo capitolo indaga infine le possibili conseguenze della tecnoferenza sul benessere socio-emotivo infantile, con focus sullo sviluppo della regolazione emotiva e sui comportamenti problematici, sia esternalizzanti che internalizzanti. Insieme, questi tre livelli di analisi offrono una visione articolata e multidimensionale della tecnoferenza, mettendo in luce la complessità delle dinamiche che la alimentano e l’importanza di promuovere pratiche genitoriali più consapevoli nell’era digitale.
