This work examines the psychological literature on the role of dance in the development of children and adolescents, advancing additional research proposals and critically exploring the relationship between growth and the body. It outlines the positive and negative effects of dance practice, framed as protective and risk factors associated with exposure to this discipline and its environment, across various forms and styles of movement. Beginning with the neural correlates of dancing, and moving through expressive dimensions and social roles, the distinctive profile of dance is traced in its peculiarities, compared to other sports and performance practices. The study then analyzes developmental stages, highlighting how dance can assume an educational and formative function, positively influencing physical, motor, cognitive, psychosocial, and emotional growth. Furthermore, critical issues related to dance practice are addressed, such as body imagine satisfaction or dissatisfaction, eating disorders, gender differences, perfectionism, and the normalization of pain. Finally, intervention programs involving numerous young dancers are considered, assessing their outcomes through questionnaires and specific surveys.
