Introduction: In psychology, the term “sibling” refers to the healthy brothers or sisters of a person with a disability. The constant care and assistance that parents provide to a child with a disability can lead to reduced attention toward the typically developing child, causing significant problems within the sibling relationship. When parents are no longer able to provide care, the sibling takes on the role of caregiver, a responsibility that involves difficult physical, psychological, and social challenges. This figure is often overlooked by the healthcare system, contributing to their isolation and pushing them to refuse any form of help. Objective: The purpose of this project is to create a home-based intervention to support and assist sibling caregivers, raising awareness and improving the effectiveness of their role, and enhancing their status in the social and healthcare context. Methods: For the literature review, books, manuals, and articles were selected from the following databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, Galileo Discovery, and the library. In addition, current legislation was analyzed, obtained from official documentary sources and institutional websites. The selection of material was governed by the application of specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. An in-depth analysis of the issues and educational needs identified led to the implementation of the home-based intervention. Results: The analysis highlighted how sibling caregivers face multiple physical, relational, and psychological difficulties. Issues related to planning for the future, developing identity, and managing stress and burnout are also significant, exacerbated by a lack of consideration on the part of professionals and parents. Conclusions: Sibling carers are often overlooked. It is essential to conduct further research, develop new interventions and actively involve institutions to ensure they receive adequate support.
