How happy are young adults today? Were young adults happier in the past? Some recent studies (World Happiness Report 2026; Blanchflower, 2025; Blanchflower et al., 2025) indicate a worrying trend in which young adults (Millennials and Gen Z) are less happy today than older generations, reversing a historical trend. Although advances in technology, health, and industry have increased, reported levels of happiness or well-being have not increased proportionally, and in some cases have even decreased. Living conditions, life expectancy, and economic well-being are significantly higher than in the past. However, this improvement has not translated into consistent and sustainable happiness or well-being. Currently, some studies (Chilver & Gatt, 2021; Arslan et al., 2025) suggest that well-being can be achieved and enhanced through various channels and practices, including mindfulness, gratitude, savoring, and finding a life purpose. Today, all these psychological interventions are grouped under the name "positive psychology interventions" (Parks & Schueller, 2014). Indeed, life satisfaction, happiness, and well-being are now central areas of research in the social sciences, especially in positive psychology.
