This thesis examines the impact of TikTok on the cognitive functions of young people. The first chapter provides an overview of cognitive functions and how they can be altered by the use of the internet and social media. The second chapter describes TikTok and its features that might make it particularly effective in compromising the attentional processes of the youth. The third chapter reviews recent research on the effects of TikTok on various cognitive functions. The conclusion discusses the limitations of current research and future prospects. Despite the need for further studies to determine a cause-and-effect relationship between TikTok and the deterioration of memory and attention, the author believes that the current literature is sufficient to consider this social media a risk factor for the proper development of cognitive functions.
Questa tesi analizza l'impatto di TikTok sulle funzioni cognitive dei giovani. Il primo capitolo fornisce una panoramica delle funzioni cognitive e di come queste possano essere alterate dall'uso di internet e dei social media. Il secondo capitolo descrive TikTok e le sue caratteristiche che potrebbero renderlo particolarmente efficace nel compromettere i processi attentivi dei giovani. Il terzo capitolo analizza le ricerche recenti sugli effetti di TikTok su varie funzioni cognitive. La conclusione discute i limiti della ricerca attuale e le prospettive future. Nonostante la necessità di ulteriori studi per determinare un rapporto di causa-effetto tra TikTok nel deteriorare memoria e attenzione, l'autore ritiene che la letteratura attuale sia sufficiente per considerare questo social media un elemento di rischio per il corretto sviluppo delle funzioni cognitive.
